Thoughts from across the pond

With many deadlines in the next three weeks, it's likely that my presence here will be minimal. In between editing and writing today, I thought I'd share these two quotes found today on my Google homepage:

This one seems more important today than at any time in history. 'Tis duly noted Sir Arthur.
"I never guess. It is a capital mistake to theorize before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts." — Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
And in the wonderfully dark and sometimes-violent way in which the Irish can speak, I give you Samuel Beckett:
"Let me go to hell, that's all I ask, and to go on cursing them there, and them look down and hear me, that might take some of the shine off their bliss." — Samuel Beckett

Hmmm...Quote No. 2 is probably one I should keep on hand for those times when deadline is causing me to eat cheetos for breakfast and sucking down coffee like it's air. (Is this normal??!!)Don't answer that.

Hah! So true, K, so true. This week I've been sucking down Diet Coke. I NEVER drink soda. Deadlines can be hell on my diet.

How about a little "attribution" for the Beckett quote.

Here's another Beckett quote in Bartleby:

QUOTATION: No, I regret nothing, all I regret is having been born, dying is such a long tiresome business I always found.

ATTRIBUTION: Samuel Beckett (1906–1989), Irish dramatist, novelist. The narrator of “From an Abandoned Work,” in First Love and Other Shorts, p. 43, Grove Press (1974).

Yours also appears in “From an Abandoned Work” but in what work, exactly? And what is the name of the chararter speaking it? (You don't have to include the page number (:o) ).

Um, talk about dumb. The answer to my previous comment was right there in my question: "From an Abandoned Work" IS the "work", obviously, it appears in First Love and Other Shorts and the "chararter" (character) speaking it is The Narrator.

And here's a bit more context, FWIW:

"Ah, my father and mother, to think they are probably in paradise, they were so good. Let me go to hell, that's all I ask, and go on cursing them there, and them look down and hear me, that might take some of the shine off their bliss. Yes, I believe all their blather about the life to come, it cheers me up, and unhappiness like mine, there's no annihilating that.
